This small ceramic jug has a tactile teardrop shape that has been hand-thrown on the wheel with a straight stem-handle impressed into the side, creating an undulating shape inside the jug.

A jug is a key part of a Chinese Tea Set: the tradition within Chinese culture is to pour from the Brew Pot, where the tea leaves have been left to steep, into a small jug where the beautiful colour of the tea can be seen with greater clarity before being poured into tiny cups.

It’s not just for tea, though. Like all the elements that make up the Chinese Tea Set, this side-pour jug can be bought separately and used for any purpose.

As with all items from the Jo Davies Studio, this piece is hand-thrown on the wheel by Jo Davies and finished individually. Glazed with tactile, satin-matt stoneware crackle glaze in white, or a satin-matt manganese glaze in black

The Chinese Tea Set is a response to the wonderfully diverse tea sets Jo Davies encountered while taking tea on a 2018 trip to Jingdezhen - the home of Chinese porcelain. The Set reflects both the Western and Eastern traditions and rituals of tea drinking, bringing together divergent ideas of form and function in a set that unmistakably carries the unique Jo Davies aesthetic. Created to celebrate the eclectic and traditional tea sets used in daily life in China, you are invited to choose matching or complementary coloured elements in creating your own set.
